Discerning designers and consumers seeking the most imaginative and finely crafted products will soon be immersed in the area’s premier collection of European home and office lines, including the Southwest region’s largest offering of 90-year-old Italian heritage brand Boffi, when Gala Design Studio opens next month at 2222 Westheimer.

Setting a new benchmark of retail sophistication in the city’s sought after River Oaks area, the eye-catching, 10,000 square foot showroom was conceived by Cisneros Design Studio and built by CTC Contractors and will serve as marketplace for high-end kitchen, closet and bathroom furnishings, as well as doors, storage systems and exterior cladding from some of the world’s most meticulous producers and coveted purveyors.
Offering space planning and architectural design support for upscale residential and commercial projects, Gala Design-Studio brings a wealth of creativity and service acumen together under one roof. President and CEO Renee Galang and COO James Kim have partnered to create a resource for discriminating customers seeking something out of the ordinary, providing bespoke options from more than 20 traditional/time-honored and avant-garde artisan brands. The full arc of services, ranging from consultation and collaboration to contracting and installation, merge in Gala’s one-stop environment, where breathtaking ideas are turned into fabulous realities for life, work and play.
“We are a Houston-based design firm committed to helping create ultimate dream environments,” Galang said. “Our services, backed by years of experience in architectural design and luxury furniture brands, will take customers from conceptualization to project completion of living spaces of distinction and sophistication." The two-story building (clad in a swath of Novowood, the sustainable composite wood alternative that is one of the prime purveyors Gala represents) is a showcase for a highly curated inventory creating the most stylish marriages of form and function. The entire ground floor level is dedicated to Boffi, known for its remarkable kitchens, bathrooms and closets, as well as its sister brands: furniture focused DePadova featuring collaborations with Paul Smith and Japan-based Time & Style, plus prestige door maker ADL. It will be the first and largest Boffi experience in the region.
The showroom's second level encompasses indoor, outdoor and office furniture, bookcase systems, game tables, mirrors, rugs, lighting, storage, lighting, screens and partition walls from an array of other in-the-know names, including MisuraEmme, Linie Design, Roll & Hill, COR, Actiu, La Cividina, Bomma, Ethimo, RS Barcelona, Arte Veneziana and Newform Ufficio.
Galang, a University of Texas at Austin trained architect, is well-respected in design circles. Before embarking on Gala Design-Studio, she was the co-owner of nearby Poliform Houston showroom and began her career in design with retailers Kuhl-Linscomb and Ligne Roset before launching her own interiors firm. Late last year, she and Kim, who brings nearly 25 years of retail, real estate and finance experience to his role, debuted a showroom for ARAN Cucine catty corner from Gala Design-Studio at 2427 Westheimer. The ARAN brand is acclaimed for innovative and elegant kitchen and closet solutions.
